About the Soups
It’s simple: we make our soups from scratch and the way you (or your mom or grandma or grandpa) make it. We simmer chicken bones, whole veggies, herbs + aromatics together for hours to get a nuanced, rich and reminiscent broth-which we then pack with tons of goodies like chicken breast, noodles or matzah balls and veggies. The soups you see on the shelf next to us start with a pre-made chicken stock or are made from “Base” (think a bouillon cube that gets is chicken flavor from chemicals and sugars, not ingredients).
Because our soups are made from scratch versus starting with a box of chicken stock or a bouillon cube, the salt content in our soups is significantly lower than others you might find in the deli aisle. We use real ingredients to get our flavor and hue, and the reasonable amount of Kosher salt (*always Morton’s) enhances the ingredients versus doing any flavor heavy lifting.
Because mushy vegetables keep us up at night! Joking (sorta) aside, we like our veg to have a little bit of al dente crunch. Don’t feel the same way? Cool! Put the soup in a pot and cook it for 8-10 minutes (add a little water so you don’t lose all the broth) to get to the veg texture you are looking for.

More info on the soups....
Prescription Chicken is our local delivery business that brings hot, better than homemade chicken soup to your door in the Washington, DC area. Chix Soup Co is the SAME delicious soups, but in the deli aisle of your favorite natural market!
“The Upcycled Certified Program is the world’s first third-party certification program for upcycled food ingredients and products. The mark highlights upcycled ingredients and products procured and produced with surplus food or food by-products from manufacturing, that use verifiable supply chains and have a positive impact on the environment.”
In soup terms, this means that we are using ingredients that would otherwise be considered waste to make our soups – such as carrot nubs and stubs, horseradish whips, tomato seconds and more.
Our soups are not organic. We focus on whole and upcycled ingredients, utilizing local small farmers whenever possible, versus organic growing styles that could cause long-distance sourcing or added cost to our partners.
Do we EVER! We offer a very delicious sipping broth called our chicken Bone Broth. We take chicken bones and combine them with other whole veg and cook very intensely to get a rich and roasty sipping broth that is packed with vitamins and minerals. This delicious broth is souper high in protein (18 g of protein per serving!), and is low in fat and calories. Use it as a recovery beverage, as breakfast or as the base for a soup or stew. Make sure you look for the ‘jiggle jiggle’ on the shelf – our bone broth is chock filled with collagen and gelatin from the cooking process. Don’t worry – once heated you’ll get a smooth and rich broth.
That said, we use bones in all of our soups, so technically all of our soups are considered bone broths!
Our soups are not currently kosher at this time. We are exploring this, so please reach out and let us know if this is something that is important to you!
AMAZING! We’d love to be in your store! Email us and we’ll get things going!
